Dr. Michael Allen was selected as this year's recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award. Allen will receive a $5,000 award and will be honored at the UWT Founders Day ceremony on May 25, at the UW Recognition Ceremony on June 9, and again at the UWT commencement on June 10.
The June 10 commencement ceremony will be held at the Puyallup Fairgrounds at 11:00 a.m. Initially the graduation was scheduled to take place in the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, but many graduates were outraged that a four-ticket limit would be in place due to space constraints.
University of Washington President Mark Emmert signed an agreement last week with representatives from the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and the Higher Education Coordinating Board promising 72 percent of baccalaureate seats on the Tacoma campus to transfer students with at least 45 credits.
Financial advisor Larry S. Kopp will be on campus April 12, and April 19 to offer workshops on how to manage stock market investments. The two-part workshop titled, "Beat the Market: How to Average 10% to 30% Returns," runs from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. both days.
Chair of the Public Health Nursing Section of the American Public Health Association, Betty Bekemeier, will lead a dialogue, Public Health: Nursing and Policy, on Tuesday April 12 in the Carwein Auditorium from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Bekemeier is a Public Health Nurse with 18 years experience in public health practice.
