…Fries Nirvana? Sheer bliss. Six Olives (2708 Sixth Avenue, (253)272-5574-website has full, fun menu at sixoliveslounge.com) has a Jell-o/vodka-shot that comes in a huge hypodermic that has to be about the oddest alcohol delivery device I've seen recently.
I had an amazing vodka cranberry (I know, it's a simple drink, but it's always messed up with either too much of one element or the other) while my date (and meal ticket) was digging on the "Back to Basics" idea ("beer and a shot?
How can you go wrong?")
You just must go in (well, over 21) and have the Fries Nirvana, or the Dipping Fries with Wasabi Aioli. Your taste buds will be forever grateful…
…Deep fried macaroni and cheese? Yep.
Went to a choreography showcase at Club SOTA called "the Joel Show" and discovered not a lot of restaurants in downtown Tacoma are open on Sunday evenings, which was what I really wanted to eat.
The former Jillian's-now-Varsity Grill (1114 Braodway, (253)627-1229 -website, varsitygrill.com) was a very cool environment, sports bar meets architecturally chic, plasma TV heaven.
We had less than 25 minutes to eat, and our waiter hustled like a Seahawk to get us fed, boozed, "check"-ed and out in time.
My salad was huge, but primarily iceberg lettuce, and lacked flavor (which is what happens, generally, when you ask "hold the dressing, please!") while my friend's deep-fired macaroni and cheese was the strangest crazy good I've ever tasted.
It had a sort of, mozzarella-stick-minus-the-stretch-thing happening-if you order it, keep in mind that we thought the ranch dressing definitely suited it better than the marinara.
My vodka cranberry was very nearly the stiffest drink I've had since my semi-pro bar-hopping days-the very light pink color could have been my first clue.
I will return, though next time I'll ask for their pick in wine--what do think would suit the deep fried mac?
… Art in coffee? Art and coffee? Generally I have the jasmine green tea at Metro Coffee, (just up the campus stairs, between the library and the science building) but I needed a bit more pep.
I discovered the barista is an artiste-she actually makes art in the foam! Color me inexperienced, but I thought that was just something they did on the Food Network when they were talking about Seattle Coffeehouses.
The latte was amazing, perfect mix of foam and elixir of the peppy deities, and as I sipped the ambrosial nectar, I enjoyed the art-the digital images of a shark devouring fleece deserve a trip up the stairs, even if you aren't a coffee drinker!
... Coming soon: Artwalk, Cutters Point, and Urban Xchange join up to bring hip-hop, dance, and robots! Details, next time!!
