Tacoma’s Night Out on the Town is the answer to every college student’s quiet – and often low-funded – Thursday night.

Every couple of months, businesses in downtown Tacoma’s Theater District open their doors to offer wine tasting, free gifts and a chance to hang with other locals.

Several businesses participate regularly in the event, including Junior Bizarre, Over the Moon Café and Puget Sound Pizza.

Junior Bizarre is a stylish, vintage boutique offering “unique and thrifty clothing.” Co-owner Emily Trecker says the event is fun for owners and shoppers alike.

“We like to call it the Wine Walk” Trecker said. “That, or Drunk Shopping.”

Over the Moon Café offers a relaxing environment with an Italian café feel. Deanna Bender, owner and chef for the past six years, offers guests a wine tasting table.

For five dollars a person, you have your choice of wine and snacks. When she has the chance, Bender likes to stop and chat with her guests.

Puget Sound Pizza, known for its reasonable prices and fun atmosphere, is also on the list. After an evening of shopping and wine tasting, it is the ideal last stop. Kick back, relax and enjoy their five samples of on-tap micro brews.

Night Out on the Town is a year-round event, happening every other month.
